Whole Home Air Handlers and Coils
How Air Handlers and Coils Work?
The air handler and evaporator coil are key components of a whole-home indoor comfort system. Whether paired with an air conditioner or a heat pump, these indoor parts work together to maintain a comfortable home based on your preferred settings.

Air Handler

The indoor air handler works with the outdoor air conditioner
(for cooling) or heat pump (for both heating and cooling). Its primary function is to circulate air
throughout your home.
The air handler contains a blower that pulls air from your home, passing
it over the evaporator coil, which
cools or heats the air depending on the system's operation. It then circulates the conditioned air through
your home's ductwork to maintain the desired temperature set on your thermostat.

Evaporator Coil

When used with an air conditioner, warm air from your home passes over the cold evaporator coil, losing heat and cooling down. This process also helps reduce relative humidity, as moisture in the air condenses on the coil, maki ng the indoor environment more comfortable.

Inverter Compressor

The compressor, contained in the outdoor unit, circulates the refrigerant throughout the system. Not all compressors are created equal. Traditional systems use single-speed (100% ON or OFF) or two-speed compressors. Modern Daikin systems are equipped with adaptive inverter technology, which adjusts the compressor speed in real time, as necessary to balance indoor comfort and system efficiency.

R-32 Refrigerant

The low global warming potential refrigerant (fluid) in the copper refrigeration tubing that circulates through the indoor and outdoor unit. R-32 has been used across the world for more than a decade and will now be in all Daikin home air conditioners in North America.

Modern Unit

Modern outdoor air conditioners, also known as condenser units, use inverter-driven technology to adjust the compressor's speed to match the thermostat’s cooling demand in real time. The inverter technology redefines system performance, enhances energy efficiency, and provides sustainable energy savings.

Traditional Unit

Traditional outdoor air conditioners, also known as condenser units, utilize a single-speed or two-speed compressor to meet your thermostat's cooling demand. A single-speed compressor operates at 100% capacity until it reaches your preset indoor temperature and turns off. A two-stage compressor allows for two levels of operation, which may help minimize uncomfortable temperature swings associated with single-speed outdoor units.

Gas Furnace

Often matched with split air conditioning systems, Daikin furnaces not only do a great job of keeping your home warm during the winter, but the furnace fan, or blower, is also used to assist the air conditioning system in circulating cooled air during warmer seasons. A two-stage or variable-speed blower for your Daikin furnace means it doesn't run at an all-or-nothing rate, providing high-efficiency benefits.

Daikin One Premium Air Cleaner

The Daikin One Premium Air Cleaner is an optional, efficient and convenient solution to help remove dust and other airborne particulates passing through the return air ducts of your central heating and cooling system. Its deep-pleated media filter contains more surface area than standard furnace filters, helping capture more particles with little airflow restriction and allowing them to last longer between filter changes.

Electronic Expansion Valve (EEV)

Electronic expansion valves are utilized in Daikin modern heat pumps to precisely control refrigerant flow into the system. The EEV operates in tandem with the inverter compressor speed to deliver precise refrigerant flow, improving the system’s response, energy saving, and precise control. EEV is a technological upgrade over standard thermostatic expansion valves (TXV) used in traditional, non-inverter systems.

Intelligent Defrost Mode

The outdoor unit will enable this mode to help prevent frost/ice from building up in cold climate conditions. It also helps with longer heating operation time for additional comfort for occupants (compared to HVAC systems without this function).
